Rotating Machines, whether motors or generators,
are among the few most crucial equipment required
while running the industry. Whereas motors are
drivers of the machinery, generators play an equally
important role in the precarious power availability
situation of India.
The generator industry in India is admirably catering
to the alternative power requirement of large
and small industries, commercial establishments
and domestic sector. Domestic manufacturers in
India are capable of manufacturing AC Generator
right from 0.5kVA to 25,000kVA and above with
specified voltage rating. State-of Art generators
with electronic AVR units permanent magnet excitation,
class H insulation, single bearing construction,
brushless etc. matching the latest technology
abroad, are also available.
Riding on the industrial development, the industry
grew rapidly with requirement of general-purpose
motors in all segment of the industry. Its growth
boosted further by the requirement of special
purpose motors for specific applications like
cranes, cement mills, machine tools, flameproof
motors for the mining and DC machines for the
textile and other sectors and for pump sets by
the agricultural sector. The overall growth during
2004-05 ia about 21% for HT & LT motors. However,
FHP motors has posted a negative growth of almost
15% due to huge imports.
In today’s situation, the need to be economically
competitive is of utmost importance. The saving
in the form of electrical energy makes practical
sense for all types of industries as well as agriculture.
Energy efficient (EE) motors are the solution
for it. EE Motors incorporate the latest development
in design and material technology resulting into
minimum losses both in core and windings. Though
the initial cost of these motors may be slightly
higher than that of standard motors, the initial
extra cost is compensated against the saving in
electricity bills due to their superior efficiency.
Excellent pay back period will encourage industries
to go for EE motors. |
